THE ESSENTIALS

Playing Tracks

1. Playing Tracks

00:03:25
In this lesson you will learn how to play tracks, use the JOG and control the sound volume. DJ-ing starts with choosing music, but to use your chosen track you’ll have to load it into your DJ app. This tutorial will show you how to do just that, but also how to use the JOG and how to position the knobs and faders on the mixer to make sure the volume of the track is right. When you are done setting things up, simply press play to hear your chosen track!
Cueing a Track

2. Cueing a Track

00:04:09
This lesson will teach you all about cueing. Cueing has everything to do with pre-listening and preparing the track you want to be played to your audience. With cueing you can check whether the new track fits well into your mix. To make the perfect start with a new track, you might define a custom starting point. You determine that starting point by turning the JOG, for example, and then marking the starting point with the Cue button. This tutorial will explain cueing and will show you how it works.
Beat Matching

3. Beat Matching

00:03:29
In this lesson you will learn about beat matching. Beat matching is an important and indispensable part of DJ-ing. Beat matching ensures that the music tracks that you are going to mix for your audience flow nicely into each other and that the beats of both tracks can be heard at exactly the same time. This is done by syncing the tempo of the tracks. This tutorial will show you how can sync your beats both manually and automatically.
EQ and Filtering

4. EQ and Filtering

00:03:44
This lesson will teach you about equalizing, filtering and DJAY PRO AI’s Neural Mix. Equalizing, or EQ, and filtering are actually the same: filtering is removing frequencies of sound. EQ is the functionality on your DJ Controller that actually does it. There is an EQ for low, mid and high frequencies and there is a separate filter knob. The filter knob is in most cases a filter that cuts frequencies in a special way at one time, while the separate EQ knobs help you change only the specific frequency ranges as mentioned before. DJAY PRO AI’s Neural Mix can be used for more advance filtering, such as removing vocals or drums from a track.
DJ Transitions

5. DJ Transitions

00:05:19
In this lesson you will learn different techniques to transition from one track into the next in your mix. There are many different ways to transition from one track into another when mixing. In this tutorial we explain different techniques for you to use such as: Traditional EQ Blending, Stop and Start Transition, Backspin Transition, Auto Loop with offbeat Transition, and Hot Cue’s Transition. By alternating different transitions instead of always using the same technique you can keep your mixes fresh and interesting!

THE INTERMEDIATE

Adding Effects

1. Adding Effects

00:03:19
In this lesson you will learn all about effects and how and when you can use them. When it comes to effects, in this case it's about changing the sound of your track as you play. We're not talking about the sound effects that you can find under the Sampler here, but about effects such as echo or reverb and many more. With your DJ controller and app you can use a number of basic effects that can help you to spice up or change your mix. The DJ Controller has the ability to control and adjust these effects to your liking. Adding effects is quite easy and this tutorial will show you how it works.
Playing Samples

2. Playing Samples

00:02:49
This lesson will teach you about the Sample functionality on your DJ controller. The sampler is used to play small pieces of audio which are called samples. Samples are like mini tracks, snippets of audio. A sample can be very short, for example a vocal or a shout or a clap. But a sample can also be longer, for example a riser, a few measures of a track or a groove. Samples are saved in your app and can be played from the sampler with a button. This way you have a unique sound under each button. This tutorial will show how to use the sampler and how to make you own samples.
Looping

3. Looping

00:04:44
This lesson will teach you about looping and how to use the Auto Loop and Manual Loop modes. Looping is about repeating a piece of a track again and again. A lot of tracks are all about repeating beats, sounds and melodies. Looping does exactly the same. Use a bit of your existing track and have it repeated to instantly create new grooves, breaks or builds. Loops can be short or long and are always based on the sound of your track. Just like with sampling you take a small part of your track, but with looping this part automatically plays again and again, while with sampler you have to keep pressing the pad for repeats.
Using Hot Cues

4. Using Hot Cues

00:02:49
In this lesson you will learn how to use hot cues. Hot cues are intended to mark points in your track. After assigning a point in the track to one of your hot cues, you can immediately jump to this point in the track with a single press of that hot cue button. This tutorial explains how to set and delete hot cues and gives tips on what points in a track are useful to assign to a hot cue.

THE SETUP

Connecting Speakers and Headphones

1. Connecting Speakers and Headphones

00:02:06
This lesson will teach you how to connect your headphones, speakers (on PC/Mac) and mobile device (with the included 4 wire RCA cable) to the DJ controller. When playing music you want to be able to hear your music. This can be done with either headphones or speakers. While DJ-ing you can use the headphones for listening to the actual track playing and also monitoring the new track you want to start mixing in. You are able to DJ with headphones only, but if you want to play music for an audience you’ll need speakers so the audience can enjoy your DJ set on the dance floor.
Set-up Beatport on PC or Mac

2. Set-up Beatport on PC or Mac

00:02:00
This lesson will show you how to connect the controller to your computer and how to install the software needed to DJ. This tutorial shows the entire set-up process step for step. From how to connect your controller to your computer with a USB cable to installing drivers, installing and running the Beatport and DJAY Pro DJ Apps. We even show how to load and play and pause a track. Time to get started!
Set-up on Mobile Devices

3. Set-up on Mobile Devices

00:03:36
This lesson will show you how to connect your DJ controller to your mobile Apple device. This is an installation instruction for iOS. If you have an Android device, we will provide a tutorial for Android when available. This tutorial shows step for step how to download the DJAY PRO AI DJ App, how to turn on the DJ controller, how to connect it to your mobile device and app and even how to load, play and pause tracks.
